Figured I would start a build thread now that I finally have a bike. Picked up this 2008 KTM 530 EXC-R with only 50 hrs on it for a great price. It needs a bit of work before it hits the street.
The day I picked it up.
It needs a taillight assm, so I am going to order the Sicass racing taillight and their flush mount turn signals.
The rear fender is pretty trashed, but I was planning on ordering white plastics for it anyway. There was also some black crap burnt onto the muffler endcap.
The first thing I did after riding it around the neighborhood a bit was tear it down. Before anybody says anything, yes the bike stand is sitting on top of an old creeper. It makes it much easier to move in and out of the garage by myself.
Started out with this.
After a lot of elbow grease and some VHT Flameproof paint, I ended up with this. I still need to get a couple more stainless bolts for the muffler. Some of the originals were stripped before I got the bike. :headshake
I had these laying around from when I bought my dirt bike (2008 KTM 144 SX) and they look like they should bolt right up.
I also finalized my wheel/tire order with Motostrano today :bannana:! Now I play the most difficult game there is, the waiting game...

Thanks. I think I spent 4-5 hrs with the Scotch Brite pad before I was happy with it. The VHT paint turned out pretty nice too, hopefully it holds up well.
The UPS man delivered more goodies today!:bannana:
Got the JD jetting kit, a 14T Renthal Front Sprocket, RK Chain, all of the parts to upgrade the oil pump, the parts to fix the kickstand, new oil and air filters, Factory Effex gripper seat cover, a set of Mitutoyo metric feeler gauges, CDI torque wrenches, and a Motion Pro clutch holder.
I got the jetting kit installed today and de-smogged the bike. I also uncorked the muffler when I had it apart.

I've been busy since my last update. The list of things I got done:
- installed the new front tire
- recovered the seat
- got the oil pump upgrade parts installed
- changed the engine and trans oil along with the filter
- checked the valve clearances
- got the exhaust mounted
- fixed the kickstand
- installed the new plastics
- installed the Sicass taillight and flushmount turn signals
- did some light polish work on the subframe, swingarm, rear brake lever, and kickstarter
Now I am just waiting for the wheels and tires to come in...

The wheels finally came in last friday. I managed to find some time to get them installed (still need to rivet the chain on) yesterday. It snowed on my way back to college yesterday though... :headshake
Hopefully I will get to ride it once before it goes away for the winter.
Anybody have suggestions for graphics/colors?

No matter what when you do graphics try to incorporate some orange so your hubs aren't the only orange on the bike. Heck check around where you live for a graphics/printing company and see if you cant't work out a custom set?
